Not a Book: Evita!

This blog was meant to be strictly about books, but I've decided to loosen up a bit. Here is a video that I am current obsessed with. It's 30 years old. I've never really been a fan of Evita. I saw the movie which had fun costumes and Antonio Banderas. But on the other hand it was about Eva Peron and featured Madonna singing "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" all the time. That song doesn't make any sense. That was before I saw LuPone at the Tonys.

OMG, right? At first I thought Peron's rolled R's were kitschy and horrible. After watching it a million times I've realized it is actually kitschy, fascinating, addictive, and totally awesome. Monogrammed PJs for JP!!!

LUPONE: I'm not a fan of everything she does. (ie: If you sing Cole Porter you must enunciate.) This is incredible though. The wig! The makeup! (So much better than Madonna's stylish ensembles) The low notes! The sass! The sing-scream speechifying! The dictatorial hand motions!

Bonus: Mandy "Intense" Patinkin has deftly interpreted his character as having no neck but huge balls.
