Okay, so I read some great books at the end of the summer, but didn't have a chance to write about them. They were, as my title indicates, so Totally Awesome, that I have to give some quick thoughts on them now. And I will do it free of proofreading.
1. Wicked Plants: It's a book from work that I actually both understood and enjoyed. It is small with beautiful illustrations and a bright green cover. The best and most bizarre thing about this book is that it related to everything else I read in August. For example:
Harry Potter: obviously because the Harry Potter books include lots of great poisonous plants. Wicked Plants draws specific attention to Wolfsbane in Rowling's series, but there are others, such as Mandrake.
Assassination Vacation: Okay, this book is Totally awesome in its own right. (More on that later.) Apparently, Guiteau's sister sent him a bouquet that was laced with cyanide, but it was apprehended before the assassin could commit suicide. Also: Lincoln's mother and milk sickness.
Into the Wild: The whole drama of the peas, if they were peas, ties into a section in this book about seemingly harmless plant families that can turn around and kill you.
Bonus info.: Most dangerous plant in North America? Probably Water Hemlock.
