I came across this list, from the Zimbawe International Book Fair: Africa's 100 Best Books of the 20th Century.
I've only read four and a half of the listed books. I've also read four of the other authors listed, but not the particular works that made the list. All that is in fiction. In nonfiction. I'm sure I've read an article by Appiah, but that is all.
I haven't even heard of many of these books so this gives me more potential reading. Also, someday I will finish God's Bits of Wood I really loved Ama Atoo Aidoo's Changes: A Love Story so I was glad to see she made the list, although for a different work. It's interesting that Nervous Conditions was in the top 12. I guess I never realized it was such a popular novel.
Also I love the description of selection criteria: "Nominations were made on the basis that the book has had a powerful, important or affecting influence on the nominator, as an individual, or on society."
