Brightness Falls From the Air

What is this? An unfinished, previously 'unpublished' post. I actually thought a lot about the novel, but obviously never got it all down on paper. The review is more negative than my actually opinion because I never got to the good parts. I would rate this novel as: pretty good. It was recommended by someone in bookclub. Plus, I'm really proud of that title. I couldn't hide it's awesomeness forever! I must have spent a long time coming up with that. Also, included, a mysterious note re: There Will Be Blood. What's that about? No idea.

Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks

This was enjoyable historical fiction. It held my attention and was very engaging. In fact, it wasn't until I finished that I realized how effective the narrative voice really was. It does pull you into another world. However, there was always something nagging at the back of my mind that just wasn't quite right. Part of the problem may have been that I expected a book about the Black Death and instead got the Great Plague of London (1666). So I was in a medieval frame of mind. The other problem is that I'm growing increasingly grumpy about unhistorical attitudes in historical fiction, which is ridiculous. There's a reason it's called fiction. Still, even after I adjusted to the more modern time frame...

The There Will Be Blood.
